Fyodor the Blessed (Fyodor Ushakov) was a Russian saint and military leader who lived from 1745 to 1817. He was born in the town of Burnakovo in the Yaroslavl Governorate and entered military service at the age of 12. He went on to become a distinguished Admiral in the Russian navy, winning several victories over the Ottoman Turks during the Russo-Turkish Wars of the late 18th century.
Despite his military achievements, Fyodor was known for his extreme piety and asceticism. He was said to have slept only a few hours each night, spending most of his time in prayer and fasting. He was also known for his acts of charity, giving away much of his wealth to the poor.
After his death in 1817, many miracles were attributed to Fyodor's intercession, and he was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1911. Today, he is revered as a saint and a military hero in Russia, and his holy relics are kept in the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Ushakovo, near Yaroslavl.
